Web Ergonomics Illustrated - 60 Sites Under the Microscope By Amélie Boucher Synopsis How do users really perceive your site? Can they find the right information in the right place at the right time? Does your website meet your visitors’ expectations, making them want to stay on the site and return? These questions are the difficult challenge facing all web designers. Beyond the theoretical rules, there's nothing that puts you in the place of the user, faced with the most varied situations on the web - home pages or landing pages, pages from lists or headings, content pages (articles, product descriptions), forms, online tools, and also e-mails or newsletters sent by the sites. The author has analyzed more than 60 websites and applications and gathered ergonomic data supported by user testing and the results of eye tracking experiments. Through this analysis, you can learn by example to develop effective and enjoyable websites.
Review 1 Amélie Boucher is a militant on a theme dear to my heart: "Ergonomics for everyone, but with sharp analysis!" I read this book on the plane already in a positive mood because I had read the author’s “Web Usability: For Effective Websites.” However, I did not think I would read it straight through like a thriller. I was captivated by its ergonomic analysis on a selection of sites as varied as public sites, cultural sites and e-commerce sites. She manages to highlight good practices in some contexts, not necessarily yours, but they can be replicated in other contexts. I would not have had the idea for example to see the TSF Jazz site as a source of inspiration, and yet! I also enjoyed the analysis of the stock baskets and the Archduchess site. Besides the analysis, the book is very well written and beautifully designed. Bravo to the author! (Posted by Père Ubu)
Review 2 A great book. In the last few years, I have not come across many books on web design written by an expert on ergonomics. Well supported by experimental data, this is a must read for anyone involved in web design or web development. (Posted by Web Design Shrewsbury)
Review 3 Three months after purchase, and I am always using this beautiful book by Amélie Boucher. There are numerous practical examples, well illustrated. We regret that sometimes the analysis does not go further, but I think that is not the purpose of this work, which is more likely to raise the right questions about your interface than giving you answers. The precise answers you want may come more easily once the essence of this book is absorbed. The demonstrations show there is not simply just one interface solution for the same problem, but several. I am now thinking of buying another book by Amelie Boucher, “Web Usability: For Effective Websites.” Hats off to the ergonomist Amelia and thank you! (Posted by Helga)
Review 4 Whether you or a beginner or an expert in web design, Amelie has done a very interesting book focused on web usability. To collect all this data is a real work of ants. If you are starting out and do not know how to approach the web interface, this book is an excellent starting point. And if you believe you know everything, you will learn lots of things anyway.
