Waste Management - Environmental Issues by Longet and Weick Synopsis From the moment it became settled, humanity has grappled with the problem of waste. The history of waste is the history of cities, empires and major diseases. This book tells the story of this history and shows how, having finally managed to make our own cities, we now find ourselves with an unprecedented amount of waste, responsible for a multitude of toxic substances, often resistant to treatment. Changing the idea of the “throwaway society” is both a priority and a necessity. Solutions exist and this book aims to contribute to promoting them.
Review 1 I confess to having a fascination for the history of waste management. Looking at how different civilizations have dealt with their waste is an interesting and productive way of studying history. This book, though too short for my liking, gives a useful overview. (Posted by Skip Hire)
Review 2 Direct action is the only way to stop the multinationals from leaving their crap all over the place. The law is an ass. (Posted by rusticwarrior)
