Transparent and Credible - Online Reputation Management

Transparent and Credible - The Best Online Reputation Management for Companies by Klaus Eck Synopsis From craftsmen around the corner to large international firms, an online presence is now an essential component of a successful corporate communication strategy. But only a few companies dare the adventure of social media because they fear for their brand and their reputation. Criticism, rumors and sensitive data spread fast in Facebook, Twitter and blogs - even faster than business information about products, brands and special offers. Often there are bad consequences and a company's reputation can be permanently damaged. Klaus Eck knows how to manage the balancing act between openness and helps protect a company’s reputation from the beginning: through active online reputation management. Klaus Eck was a media “PR Blogger” way back in 1995, developing and implementing initial concepts for online marketing. In this book, he argues that with the right social media strategy and appropriate instruments to gain credibility, customers will trust a company’s communications and your company’s brand will increase its market share.

Review 1 In his latest book, Klaus Eck gets to the point: how companies can communicate professionally on the Internet with transparency and credibility. Eck outlines the opportunities and pitfalls in the integration of social media activities into the communication strategies of companies. His credo is simply: first think and plan, then act. Eck gives specific and competent advice as to what works and why. The tips and examples are understandable, demonstrating that Eck is practical through and through and knows what he’s talking about. It pays to read the book several times. I recommend that you buy the book before you launch your business in the social media world. I recommend also that if you think you may be a social media expert, you should buy the book too. (Posted by Lionel Blair)

Review 2 For anyone working in corporate communications, this is a good read. The author was involved in online marketing in its infant days and his experience shows. Companies increasingly want a Facebook and Twitter presence along with their websites, so if you are working in web development this book will give you a broader view of the issues involved. Review 3 The core message of this book is the thesis that the only way to save one's reputation on the Internet is to actively create it. That sounds a bit like pre-emption, but the question of how to make a name for yourself without becoming a victim of Internet transparency is becoming increasingly important for all companies - regardless of whether the core business is online or offline. Eck offers concentrated information and tips with high practical value in the smallest space. I recommend for all PR and marketing professionals who want to do social media work for their company. Review 4 A surprisingly good book. At first I thought, it is social media people who write these books so I will not get a balanced account because the author is writing about companies he works for and likes. But it is good to come out from the place of twitters and get expert views on how to do it, both as a person and as a company. Eck identifies the long-term benefits of transparency and credibility and explains them again and again. Toward the end, it is a bit lengthy because similar examples are repeated too often and a second spell check would not hurt either. But this is not a scientific but a practical book. And there is more than enough which is appropriate and topical. (Posted by Rude Boy Ted)
