The Guide to Recycling and Reuse by Joel Graindorge Synopsis This sixth edition of the Recycling Guide is 540 pages and is fully updated on all the legal and regulatory frameworks, national and European, published between 1992 and 2004, as well on the developments in recycling technology. On legislation, the book discusses the European directive of 11 February 2004 which set new recycling targets to be achieved in late 2008. On the financial aspects, the guide discusses the new scale of Eco-Packaging with the full text of the contract applicable in 2005 and the discounted cost of recycling. The guide also covers the technical areas of recycling, such as the real rate of recycling of materials and new directions for batteries, tyres and waste electrical and electronic equipment). For those interested in recycling opportunities: there is a fully updated directory of recycling outlets. With its wealth of information, this is a true reference guide to sustainable development.
Review 1 This book contains important information on EC directives and regulations which saw changes in the way that manufacturers and producers treat packaging, also and just as important is the developments in the recycling and reuse of electronic equipment. It’s interesting to look at the info on targets, three years on, and review the realities of achievement (or non-achievement). With more developments subsequently (including for instance possible regulations on plastic carrier bags), it would be good to see a new updated edition of this guide. (Posted by Skip Hire)
Review 2 Global corporations care nothing for legislation. They flout the law and get away with it. Direct action is the only way to prevent them leaving their crap all over the place. (Posted by rusticwarrior)
