Lyrical Intertextuality: Recycling the Literary and the Cinematic by the Song by Jean-Philippe Petesch Synopsis What relationship is there between the composer Carl Orff, the singer Barbara (Monique Serf), rapper Abd Al Malik and the metal band Metallica? And what is it that unites Vincent Delerm, rap, and old school Black Sabbath? The answer is the same: taking inspiration from roots in literary works and films. If the practices are different, they all refer to the same concept: that of intertextuality, as described by texts in the lyrical domain. From nineteen case studies covering a very wide range of music, this book invites readers to (re) discover works of literature and film and their treatment by artists belonging to very distant universes, but driven by the same creative impulse.
Review 1 Someone was having a joke when they gave me this book to read. Recycling: not of redundant objects or physical materials, but words! However, I did dip into it and found it interesting. Gives one a fresh view of Black Sabbath, not to mention rap. (Posted by Skip Hire)
